Qualifications of a Professional Daydreamer

I am a sculptor of clouds,
an architect of vapor castles,
my resume written in windswept whispers,
folded in the pockets of forgotten wanderers.
The ink spills where my thoughts break free,
sprawling across the margins of a sky too small
to contain the wild kingdoms
I build within my head.

I have mastered the alchemy of boredom,
transforming ticking seconds into sprawling galaxies.
Each pause, a canvas,
each sigh, a brushstroke.
My daydreams do not idly drift—
they march like unsung soldiers,
storming the barricades of the ordinary.
Give me a quiet room,
and I will fill it with thunderstorms.

You’ll find my qualifications
pressed between the pages of half-read books,
lines underlined in haste,
notes scribbled in the margins:
"Why not a city where the rivers run backwards?"
"Could love be a color only certain birds see?"
I am a Ph.D.
in Unfinished Thoughts
and Tangential Possibilities.

My university?
The corner of the café
where conversations drip
into my ears like accidental poetry.
My degree was conferred
by sleepless nights
spent decoding the riddles of streetlights
reflecting off puddles.

Experience?
I have wandered forests
that exist only in the mist
of a sleepy afternoon.
I have climbed mountains made of
questions no one dared to ask,
their peaks shrouded in metaphors
too vast for the waking world.
Once, I chased the horizon
until it collapsed into a haiku.

I’m an expert
at composing symphonies of silence.
Give me a Monday morning,
and I’ll spin it into the golden threads
of an impossible Wednesday.
You’ll see me staring out the window—
not lost, but charting maps
to continents unmoored
from the tyranny of time.

References?
Speak to the shadows of my childhood,
who watched me redraw reality
with every glint of sunlight on my toy sword.
Or consult the constellation I once named
after the freckles on her shoulder.
Even the moon has leaned down,
curious about the worlds
spun from the fragile silver of insomnia.

I am fluent in the language of pauses.
Not the words spoken
but the words unsaid,
humming beneath breath,
where truths shyly hide.
My dialects include
the hum of bees,
the groan of tired bookshelves,
and the restless symphony
of branches scratching at a windowpane.

What else?
I am certified in standing still,
my feet rooted while my mind runs.
I’ve sat through meetings
and built entire civilizations
from the ruins of my doodles.
I am a maestro of zoning out—
don’t be fooled, though.
My absent stare is a portal.
I’ll return with treasures
from the edges of nothing.

Skills?
I can conjure thunderstorms of possibility.
I can sculpt joy out of stray thoughts.
I can turn your nine-to-five grind
into a surrealist mural
splashed across the ceilings
of your most prosaic day.

Once, I balanced an empire
on the tip of a yawn.
Once, I wrote an opera
based on the rhythms of my own breath.
I have crafted a cathedral
out of spider webs and fleeting glances.

Failures?
Perhaps.
Sometimes, the castles collapse
before I can crown them with stars.
Sometimes, I follow the thread
only to find it leads
to a tangled knot of nothing.
But even then,
I learn.
Even then,
I gather the ruins
and build again.

What makes me unique?
I am untethered.
Where others see walls,
I see doorways—
a thousand of them,
each leading somewhere
that doesn’t yet exist.
I do not just daydream;
I breathe life
into the impossible.

A professional daydreamer is not
one who escapes reality.
No, it’s someone who bends it,
stretches it like taffy,
makes it malleable enough
to fit the shape of wonder.
Someone who sees the ordinary
as scaffolding for the extraordinary.
And I—
I have spent lifetimes
perfecting that art.

So here I stand,
offering you my credentials:
a head full of stardust,
a heart full of “what-ifs,”
and hands unafraid
to reach into the ether
and return with the intangible.

Blogchatter, Hire me,
and I will teach your world
to dream awake.

I loved this. If they don’t hire you, they aren’t looking for a Muse.
