Niños De Cristo: Docu-Film Greenlit to Highlight Homeless Children in Latin America

Shining a Light on Homeless Children: The Docu-Film ‘Niños De Cristo’ Begins Production

Los Angeles Films & TV, led by the renowned creator Kiki Meléndez, has announced an ambitious new project. Their latest docu-film, Niños De Cristo, will tackle one of Latin America’s most pressing social issues—homeless children. This film aims to shed light on their struggles while inspiring global action through powerful storytelling.

With 80% of its funding secured, the film has officially been greenlit for production. DGCine has granted all necessary permissions, and several esteemed organizations, such as Compañía De Electricidad De Bayahibe (CEPEM), Domis Constructora Chiaramida SRL, and Esmeralda Group EGP SRL, have contributed funding. These partnerships highlight the collective effort behind this impactful project.

A Spotlight on Latin America’s Crisis

Homelessness among children is a critical issue in several Latin American countries, and Niños De Cristo seeks to bring this reality to the forefront. The documentary will examine the challenges faced by children in Colombia, Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Brazil, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic. These nations collectively house nearly one million children living in poverty, with an estimated 200,000 orphaned.

By focusing on these regions, the film aims to reveal the extent of the crisis. It also hopes to encourage collaboration among governments, organizations, and individuals to address this humanitarian challenge.

A Story of Hope Amid Hardship

Beyond highlighting alarming statistics, the docu-film takes a personal approach. It will chronicle the adoption journey of an American family, capturing the emotional highs and lows they experience. This narrative showcases not only the difficulties but also the immense hope and love that emerge through adoption.

Kiki Meléndez, the film’s writer, director, and producer, explained the project’s mission: “This project is profoundly meaningful. Our goal is to raise awareness about this critical issue and inspire meaningful action through storytelling.”

By intertwining factual insights with personal experiences, the film aspires to connect audiences on a deeper emotional level. It reminds viewers that every child deserves a home, love, and an opportunity to thrive.

Inspired by a Visionary Leader

The inspiration for Niños De Cristo stems from the work of Pastor Manuel Saavedra, chairman of The Niños y Niñas Foundation. Pastor Saavedra has long championed the need to share the stories of vulnerable children. “We have always believed in the importance of sharing our children’s stories, ensuring their voices are not forgotten. This is a first for us, and we are grateful that it has finally come to fruition,” shared the Pastor.

This foundation’s dedication to advocacy and its collaboration with the film’s team emphasize the importance of collective action.

A Talented Team Behind the Scenes

The production team behind Niños De Cristo is a powerhouse of creativity and experience. Co-produced by EL Studio de Catrain, the team includes Carmen Rodríguez and Flor Piña. Executive producers such as Belén Ibáñez, Meiling Macías Toro, Julia Carias Linares, Alan Solis, and Frank Drucker lend their expertise to the project.

The documentary will feature narration by actress Emily Tosta, known for her roles in Mayan M.C., Willy’s Wonderland, and Party of Five. Performances by Marta Gonzalez (The Fanatic) and Ivelin Giro (Bad Boys II, Zorro) will add depth to the storytelling.

Music plays a vital role in any cinematic experience, and Niños De Cristo will be no exception. Alison Polanco of Camali Music Group and La Compañía Domirecords will direct the music score, featuring El Mejor De Marte. Their contributions will enhance the emotional impact of the film, ensuring it resonates deeply with viewers.

Four Years in the Making

The journey to bring Niños De Cristo to life has been long but purposeful. The project has been in development for over four years, with meticulous planning and collaboration driving its progress. Now, with pre-production underway, principal photography is set to begin in the first week of February.

This milestone marks a significant step forward in a mission to raise awareness, inspire action, and create meaningful change.

Building a Legacy of Advocacy

For Kiki Meléndez, this docu-film is more than a creative endeavor—it’s a call to action. Represented by Cultural Creative, Meléndez is leveraging her platform and influence to amplify the voices of those often unheard.

Emily Tosta, represented by Greene Talent, Stride Management, TMP Talent, and Myman, Greenspan, Fox, Rosenberg, Mobasser, Younger & Light, joins Meléndez in this mission. Together, they aim to create a lasting impact that extends beyond the screen.

The Importance of Collective Action

The success of Niños De Cristo highlights the power of collaboration. Funding partners, production teams, and talent have united to address a pressing social issue. This collective effort serves as a reminder that change is possible when individuals and organizations come together with a shared purpose.

As the world faces increasingly complex challenges, initiatives like this docu-film demonstrate the importance of storytelling in driving awareness and action. By illuminating the struggles of homeless children, Niños De Cristo aspires to inspire viewers to join the fight for a better future.

Join the Movement

As Niños De Cristo moves closer to completion, its message is clear: every child deserves hope, love, and opportunity. The film serves as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to protect the most vulnerable among us.
