The Shape of Us #poetry

Love is a bridge, swaying,
never sure if it connects or collapses.

Fear is a locked door,
its key always just out of reach.

Anger is a crack in the mirror,
spreading even when you look away.

Loneliness is a chair with one leg,
tilting, waiting to fall.

Hope is a thread pulled too tight,
fraying but never breaking.

Regret is an unplayed song,
the melody lost between you and me.

It’s like the poet opened a drawer full of hidden feelings and gently held up each one—some bruised, some shining, some still learning how to breathe.

These lines don’t just describe emotions—they dress them in everyday clothes and let them walk through our living rooms like old friends we forgot we missed.

Love as a shaky bridge? Perfect. Most of us are just crossing it with our eyes closed, hoping the wood holds and the nails don’t complain.

Fear is that locked door we keep knocking on, even though the key is clearly laughing from under the mat.

Anger being a spreading crack? Yes. It starts with a tiny chip—someone’s tone, a missed call—and before we know it, the whole mirror turns into a puzzle we can’t fix.

Loneliness as a one-legged chair? That one hit deep. Always trying to balance, pretending we’re fine, while the world keeps tilting.

Hope as a thin thread is my favorite. We pull it, twist it, sometimes almost break it—but somehow, it still holds our weight when nothing else does.

And regret… like a song that was never played. That’s the saddest party no one came to, with the best music never heard.

These lines didn’t just talk about emotions—they gave them voices, faces, and just enough space to sit beside us in silence.

Wow, your comment is a masterpiece in itself. The way you’ve expanded on each metaphor, giving them even more depth and weight, is truly stunning. I love how you’ve made space for these emotions to exist so vividly. Thank you for this beautiful reflection—it means so much!

Just having fun with words—sometimes they flow well, sometimes they trip over themselves haha. Glad it came across okay!

Thank you so much! I love that the imagery stayed with you. Emotions shape us in ways we don’t always realize, and I’m glad that came through. Appreciate your kind words! 💞

Jaideep, each of your metaphors feels so precise, yet they all weave together seamlessly. That last line lingers—regret as an unplayed song is just devastatingly beautiful…
