Who do you spend the most time with?
Who do you spend the most time with, dear?
Not just in presence, but in thought so near?
Not just in voices that fill the air—
But in silent places where souls lay bare?
It isn’t the friend who calls each day,
Or the lover whose whispers don’t drift away,
Nor the child whose laughter wraps you in grace,
But someone else… in a quiet place.
You.
Yes, you—
The one within you, always true.
From the moment you rise, still wrapped in dreams,
To the hush of night and moonlight beams,
It’s your mind that speaks, your heart that hums,
Your soul that dances, your spirit that drums.
You walk with you through morning haze,
Through coffee sips and traffic maze.
You nod at strangers, answer mails,
But it's your inner voice that never pales.
When laughter fades and parties end,
And you no longer have to pretend—
Who stays behind when crowds depart?
The echoing beat of your tender heart.
Who questions all your hopes and fears?
Who quietly counts your fallen tears?
Who sees the truth behind your eyes,
And knows which smiles are worn disguise?
It’s you, sweet soul.
The unseen sun that keeps you whole.
Do you treat yourself with warmth and light?
Do you greet your shadow with love at night?
Or do you scold the self within,
For every misstep, fault, or sin?
Would you say to a friend what you say to your soul—
The harsh, bitter truths you can’t control?
Would you ask another to bear your weight,
If you spoke to them with such quiet hate?
Then why, dear heart, be cruel to you?
You are the one who’s always true.
You brave your storms, your sleepless fights,
You soothe yourself through endless nights.
You hold your breath when life feels tight,
And seek your center, your inner light.
So shouldn’t you be your dearest friend—
The one whose love won’t break or bend?
The hand you reach for in the dark,
The match that always strikes a spark?
Spend time with you—not out of need,
But from a space where joys can breed.
Talk gently to that thoughtful face
That mirrors kindness, calm, and grace.
Take walks with self down winding trails,
Let silence speak in whispered tales.
Write notes to self with ink so sweet,
That even sorrow feels complete.
Sit still with you on quiet days,
Learn the music your heartbeat plays.
Dance with self in morning sun,
And marvel how you’ve just begun.
When anger comes with flaming breath,
Don’t shut yourself out, fearing death.
Invite your rage for honest tea,
Ask, “What hurt do you hide from me?”
When grief arrives in veiled disguise,
Don’t push it out with hollow lies.
Let it sit, and gently say,
“You’re welcome here, you too may stay.”
Who do you spend the most time with?
The one inside, behind the myth.
Not what the world demands you be—
But who you are when you feel free.
Are you soft with you, when days turn gray?
Do you light a lamp or turn away?
Do you thank your legs for taking the pain,
Or curse them for walking back again?
Oh, sweetest soul, please don’t forget—
You are the safest friend you’ve met.
You carry magic in every cell,
You are the stories you dare to tell.
You’ve laughed when no one saw your joy,
You’ve smiled when chaos sought to destroy.
You’ve whispered dreams into the air,
And held them close with quiet care.
So spend your time in deep embrace
With the one who knows your silent grace.
The one who’s tried, the one who grew—
The one who’s always been with you.
Brush your own hair like a mother might,
Tuck yourself in with a kiss goodnight.
Forgive the flaws, celebrate the wins,
Let your love for self begin again.
For in the end, when days are done,
And moonlight fades from setting sun,
It’s you and you—forevermore,
Behind each breath, each open door.
So, who do you spend the most time with?
Make sure it’s someone kind and true.
Not just a shadow that walks behind,
But the beating heart you learn to mind.
For when you love the self inside,
The world becomes a softer ride.
And everywhere your feet may tread—
You carry peace inside your head.
No longer needing someone’s grace
To validate your time or place.
You’ll know the truth you always knew—
The sweetest company is…
You.
