The early 1990s was a time of technological advancements and growth in the world of personal computers. It was during this time that I took the leap of faith and bought my first computer. And I must say, it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

My first computer was a Macintosh Performa 550, also known as ‘Hook33’, manufactured by Apple Inc. It was a mid-range personal computer that was introduced in October1993 with an introductory price of USD1,200. The Performa 550 was powered by a Motorola 68030 processor, had 8 MB of RAM, and came with a built-in floppy drive and a CD-ROM drive. It was equipped with a 13-inch CRT monitor and ran on the classic Mac OS 7.1 operating system.

The moment I unpacked the computer, I was struck by its design and build quality. The all-in-one design made it a compact and easy-to-use device, and the monochrome design was both classic and timeless. The computer was easy to set up and came with all the necessary software and accessories. The user interface was intuitive and user-friendly, making it a great device for beginners like me.

One of the things I loved about my Performa 550 was its multimedia capabilities. I was able to play CDs, watch movies, and even listen to music. The CD-ROM drive was a great addition, and it opened up a whole new world of possibilities. I was able to play games, access educational software, and even browse the web.

The Performa 550 was my gateway to the world of computing, and it has left a lasting impact on my life. I learned how to code and design, and even developed my first website using this computer. It was also my companion for hours of fun and entertainment, and it holds a special place in my heart. It was discontinued by Apple Inc in the first quarter of 1995.

In conclusion, my first computer was more than just a device; it was a companion and a tool that opened up new worlds of possibilities. The Performa 550 was a product of its time and was ahead of its competitors in terms of design and functionality. And even today, more than two decades later, the memories of using my first computer still bring a smile to my face.
